Click the “Puppies” tab for up-to-date information about future litters. Desperado focuses on quality and not quantity. We will have no more than 2 litters per year at the most. There is usually a list of prospective owners who have expressed interest in adopting our puppies. Depending on the number of people on the wait list and the size and gender distribution of the litter, you may or may not be able to get a puppy right away.
Can I come visit your kennel and visit with your pack?
It is not possible for us to grant all requests for visits. For serious inquirers who want to get on our wait list, we will certainly work with you to arrange for a visit.
Do male dogs or female dogs make better pets?
This is strictly a personal preference. To us, both male and female Leonbergers are just as loving. Note that male Leonbergers are slightly larger than the female ones.
Do I get to pick my own puppy?
For new Leonberger owners, we help match puppies with their respective forever families based on our familiarity with the puppies’ personalities and the qualities for which the families seek.
Can you ship the puppy to me?
Sorry, our puppies are family members and not goods so we do not ship puppies.
How do I get on your wait list?
Let’s start by giving us an opportunity to get to know you and your family, your experience with dog ownership and how much you already know about the Leonberger breed. Please download the Questionnaire for Prospective Puppy Parents, complete and return it to us at [email protected].
I noticed that purebred Leonbergers have a much longer coat. Do you ever have puppies with shorter coats, or perhaps know of someone who breeds a mix?
Our breeding program focuses on preserving the Leonberger breed standards. Our priority is to produce good quality, healthy, good-tempered Leonbergers that meet breed standards. Please stay away from breeders who are willing to sacrifice the obligations of preserving the breed to serve puppy parents’ desire. In this case, we believe the most important thing is for you to familiarize yourself with the breed and the care necessary. If you are concerned about shedding, this breed may not be for you.
